No matter if you’re an active person or if you’re not, a beginner or a pro, you’ve got the responsibility to yourself to find the right clothing to workout in. Working out can be difficult, it’s about pushing yourself to your absolute limit and conditioning yourself to be your absolute best. But what clothing can we wear to absolutely blow us out of the water and get the best workout possible? We’ve hand picked some of the best options out there for you to better your workout.
Determine What You’re Doing
Endurance conditions your breathing and you heart rate. One benefit to working out, you’ll have a lower resting heart rate. This helps combat heart disease and a slew of other health issues. Endurance makes everyday activities easier as you’ll have the stamina to complete everyday activities.
The way to build your endurance? You can build endurance by doing cardio, taking brisk walks, completing yard work or housework. You can take classes at the gym such as spin classes or even dance classes.
Your muscular system gives you the ability to do a lot of everyday tasks, like walking, carrying items, and climbing stairs. There isn’t a lot that you can do without a muscular system. You can strengthen your muscular system by doing things around the house, such as, carrying groceries in or lifting laundry baskets.
Things you can do at the gym? Lift weights or find resistance machines. Remember to always lift with your legs and not your back!
Balance accompanies you in your everyday life in just about every part of your life. There isn’t a time when balance isn’t with you or guiding your through life. Keeping your balance is all part of training your muscles, but mainly it’s about keeping active and training yourself.
What can you do to add balance to your life? Try balancing on one foot or strategic walking methods.
Flexibility gives you the ability to perform everyday tasks but flexibility is especially helpful when it comes to your everyday gym routine. This allows your muscles to flex and perform to their highest power. Testing your flexibility keeps you limber.
Ways to stay limber and flexible are super simple. Try stretching each part of your body throughout the day or you can take classes like yoga and ballet at the gym.
Dressing for comfort at the gym is important. You don’t want to go to the gym in jeans and a sweater. You’ll want to make sure that you determine what you’re doing with your workout that day. Is it leg day? Are you doing cardio? Lifting weights?
Decide what works best for your workout. Loose fitting shirts are great, but you want to make sure that they aren’t too loose. Look for comfort in you clothing, but make sure that you aren’t going with something that isn’t comfortable. Comfort is everything.
Support is one of the biggest things that you need for a workout. There are tons of methods to get support from your workout gear, but certain clothing is meant for more support whereas other clothing is just meant for comfort. Supportive workout gear can not only aide in circulatory health, but also give you less aches and pains with the right support.
Odor blocking material isn’t great if you’re a sweater… Ha, not that kind of sweater! If you are one to sweat a lot at the gym or when working out, then you need to find something to combat the smell. You’ll also notice that you wash your gym clothes a lot and after a while, the smell just becomes more potent.
If you’re working out outside, you may not think about sun protection. UV Protective clothing is something that is necessary for workouts for outdoor activities such as jogging, walking, running, hiking, kayaking, or any other activity that you may get into in the great outdoors.
Two works… Sports bra. Every girl working out needs a good sports bra. There are tons of reasons that every girl needs a good one, but let’s just go with the main reason… Your girls need support. Don’t skimp on a good bra because you think you’ll be good with the generic brand of booby holders… False, you need all the support you can get when it comes to exercise and the mammaries.
Consider the Elements
If you’re working out outside, think about where and when you’re working out. If you’re running the roads at night, you don’t want to have low visibility. You want to be able to be seen. This is more of a safety thing than anything. You don’t want to put your life in danger.
Consider the winter months. Your workout doesn’t stop with the nasty, cold weather. You could pursue your workout at any time of the year, but you shouldn’t stop your workout because of bad weather. The best way to dress in the colder months is to dress in layers. Dressing in layers may not be convenient and may feel bulky, but the best way to stay appropriately warm is to dress for the weather you’re going to be in.

You’ve got the outfit covered, but more than likely you didn’t give your shoes a second thought. Things You Should Never Wear to the Gym
There may be a list of things that you can wear to the gym, but there may be a bigger list of things not to wear to the gym. The list isn’t to offend you or make you feel as though you are doing something wrong. It is just to let you know that there are better options out there.
Cotton– Cotton absorbs sweat. In turn, this will not only leave a stench behind with the sweat locking into your clothing, but cotton materials will also become heavier at they become more saturated with sweat.
Shoes that have seen better days– Think of your shoes as shock absorbers. If you drove your car without shocks, that would be a super bumpy ride. Pretty uncomfortable right? So why would you wear shoes that were worn out and in need of “repair” to the gym?
Clothing that is too baggy– Clothing that is too baggy can actually be a hinderance to your workout. You don’t want to be working out and constantly yanking your pants up, now do you?
Clothing that is too restrictive– If you’re working out, you want fluidity and well ready movement. You want to be able to comfortably adjust and readjust without having to worry about restrictive movement.
Strings-Don’t wear necklaces, floppy earrings, or wired headphones. It may sound like an inconvenience, but wearing wired headphones can actually be very distracting and hazardous. Thing about it, if you pull the headphones out of your ears accidentally while you’re running and step on the cord… You can imagine what happens next.
