Pregnancy is an exciting time in a woman’s life. There are tons of things to be excited about– A baby, for one. But with that baby comes tons of changes, good and bad. While you’ll welcome all of the changes that happen in your life, the first thing you’ll notice is changes in your body. These changes, while they can be expected, may not be welcomed or expected. There are tons of things that can help with all the pregnancy woes, but one thing that can help? Exercising. One thing that can help with your workout routine? Proper maternity workout clothes.
Get Yourself a Good Sports Bra
The number one things that you must buy… Even if you don’t buy anything else, you must get a good bra. If you’re going to be moving around, running, doing circuits, or walking, you need something to holster those bad boys down. You don’t want to knock yourself out and more importantly, you don’t need the weight flopping around to give you more back pain.
The Proper Underwear
Quite awkward but oh so necessary to chat about. No one wants a wedgie at the gym… Or anywhere for that matter. It’s just uncomfortable and embarrassing. But when they say, you puff up everywhere, they mean you puff up everywhere. You’re going to want to invest in some really great undies. These don’t have to be attractive, the just have to do the job that the need to do.
You Need the Pants
While most yoga pans have the thick waist band that can conform around your growing belly, you need a pant that has support. Look for compression pants that have the belly band to accommodate your growing belly.
Get the Belly Band
A belly band may not be the most attractive thing to wear or buy, but let me tell you– It will change your life. If you’ve been working out without it, more than likely you’ve ended up with an aching back, sore shoulders, and more pain than you can count on one hand.
The number one recommended belly band? Babo Care belly band. The reason? This belly band is breathable, supportive, and comfortable for those that need lower back and pelvis support. As your belly grows, so will the pain.
A Supportive Shoe
For each workout, there are different needs from a shoe. If you’re working out to an intense pace, more than likely, you’ll want a shoe that can keep up. You don’t want a shoe that lacks support or comfort or you will pay for it later.
Active workouts include running or jogging, hiking, or fast paced classes like Zumba or other dance classes. It’s great to be able to do those classes, but make sure you get the best support from your shoe to help aid other parts of your body.
Circuits in the Gym
If you’re a gym rat– Someone that prefers a simple, sole workout routine. Look for a shoe that gives you support, but doesn’t over take your foot. You want flexibility and cushion to help with your constant movement.
Walking or Leisure
If you’re more of a person of leisure that likes to walk the neighborhood or gently use the elliptical, you still need a shoe with support. Find a shoe that disperses comfort to your whole foot. These shoes are also great for everyday!
Comfortable Swim Wear
What to Look For
While swim wear can be used at more than just the gym, it’s important to find a suit that fits well and allows you to feel confidant and beautiful. Remember, you grow in more than just your midsection when it comes to pregnancy.
You’ll grow in your hip area and in the chest. Some women grow as much as four to seven cup sizes. Keep that in mind when purchasing your suit.
One Piece vs a Two Piece
A one piece is great for those that don’t want to deal with adjusting and fidgeting when it comes to having to pull and situate yourself. Depending on your exercise intensity, you may want to consider a once piece for the more active activities like swim aerobics.
A two piece is great for those that are doing more of leisure activities such as swimming laps in the pool. This is great for if you’re considering a water birth as well! While you may not be able to use the suit after the fact, it may be the best option for your lifestyle.
While you may not be thrilled about having to go out and buy a new wardrobe to fit your growing body, buy items that will work for what you want, be comfortable, and last you your entire Pregnancy. While it’s fun to look cute, comfort is more important. Don’t forgo the bra because your grandma would wear it and certainly don’t skimp on the underwear– No one wants a wedgie when they are working out.
