When you first start going to the gym, you don’t have any idea what or where to start when it comes to working out and having a workout routine. While starting a new routine may not be the easiest, it is possible. One question you can ask yourself though… If you’re an avid gym goes, can you make your routine more efficient? Check out these workout tips that will make you a pro at gym.
Document Your Progress
Make sure that you keep track of your progress. While you may not have the opportunity to back date your progress, start now. Keep a progression chart of your measurements, weight, and other factors (how quickly you ran the mile, how many reps you did…) to keep yourself in the know.
While you don’t have to have chart visible or a graph in your home, use a notebook to document your progress. You can keep it in your gym bag so that every time you go to the gym you can see the progress that you’ve made. Be sure that you document what you do at every workout just so that you can look back at how far you’ve come. Try taking pictures too!
If you go to the gym at least three times a week and that is what you’ve set for yourself, make sure that you go to the gym at least three times a week every week. Consistency will give you the ability to stay on track with not only your gym time by your personal life as well.
Just like if you do arms and chest on Monday, cardio on Wednesday, and legs on Friday, keep that up each week. This will give you the ability to know what to expect when you go to the gym.
Set a Routine
In tune with being consistent, you are going to need a routine as well. This does not necessarily mean a gym routine as much as it is a life routine. Be sure to keep yourself on a fairly simple routine that allows your body to cope and adjust to what you’re putting it though.
For example, if you’re going to go to the gym in the mornings, make that your routine. Gym, work, family time, bed. If you’re planning on going in the evenings, chisel out the time in the evening so that you don’t feel rushed and anxious when it comes to completing your workout routine.
Keep yourself accountable by setting goals. Your goals don’t have to be outrageous or offset your routine, just as long as you push yourself and keep moving forward. Your goals can range from anything from getting your mile down to a certain time or benching so much weight.

If you’re not good with goalkeeping, be sure that you write down your goals each day until you complete them. Not only does this track your progress, but this also gives you an idea of how long it takes you to meet each goal– This gives you realistic expectations.
Give Yourself a Break
Don’t become that person that makes a lifestyle out of the gym if you don’t have time for that. While it’s great that you want to workout, get fit, and be healthy, there is no reason to totally kill yourself trying to get everything done outside of the gym and kill yourself inside the gym.
You can wear yourself thin with too many fires burning. Try to find the balance that fits you and your life perfectly. It may take a few tries, but you’ll get it down sooner or later when it comes to the perfect home life and gym routine.
It may seem like a pain to have to drink water at the gym, but you don’t want to pass out from dehydration. One way to combat this whole hydration thing is to drink water frequently throughout the day. With drinking water frequently throughout the day, you’ll more than likely be visiting the bathroom a ton but at least you’ll keep your electrolytes viable to keep yourself hydrated.
Switch it Up
If you get sick of going to the gym and doing your normal workout, switch it up every once in a while. Instead of running on the treadmill, try running in the local park. Switch up your days if you get bored with the same old workout that you’ve been doing. Simple changes like that not only keep you interested in your workout but keep you motivated too.
